Overview of MSD China R&D

As a key innovation initiative under MSD's global R&D network, the MSD R&D China Innovation Collaboration Center (MCICC) was officially launched on November 1, 2024. It is dedicated to building an open, agile and efficient innovation collaboration platform focused on high-potential early-stage projects, integrating MSD's global scientific resources with the strengths of China's local innovation ecosystem to advance high-quality clinical translation from "discovered in China" to "applied globally". As China-originated innovations continue to demonstrate global influence, the establishment of MCICC marks MSD's strategic deepening of partnerships with China's scientific community and biopharmaceutical industry.

Leveraging this platform, MSD collaborates with outstanding local partners to advance breakthrough innovations and accelerate their development into globally accessible treatments, bringing benefits to patients sooner. Over the past year, MCICC has built an extensive cooperation network with domestic biotech companies, investment institutions, industrial parks, hospitals and universities; while advancing project evaluation and clinical development partnerships, it has continuously shared international experience and collaboration opportunities with industry stakeholders, fostering two-way connectivity between global R&D resources and China's innovation ecosystem.

As the annual flagship event of MSD R&D China, the Science Day aims to create a high-level scientific exchange platform, deepen dialogue and collaboration between MSD and China's innovation ecosystem, accelerate the translation of innovations, and expand patient access. Through this platform, MSD seeks to strengthen synergy with local innovation forces and integrate into China's dynamic innovation landscape.

Headquartered in Beijing, MSD China R&D Center has R&D teams in Shanghai, Guangzhou, Chengdu and Wuhan, with research focus areas including oncology, vaccines, anti-infectives, cardiovascular and metabolic diseases, respiratory diseases, immunology, neuroscience and ophthalmology. Its oncology portfolio covers more than 20 cancer types, including several high-incidence cancers in China. To date, MSD has brought more than 80 innovative medicines, vaccines, new indications and companion diagnostics to China, continuously addressing unmet local clinical needs.
